2023

Heidi Horn: Heidi is responsible for setting up and running the Community food hub as well as setting up the Tab Café which takes place on Wednesdays in The Tabernacle Church.

Phil Durcan: Phil has lived in Dursley since moving with his mother and father in 1951 and since 1957 his family have owned a hardware shop in the town with the current shop in Parsonage Street being occupied since 1977.

Pam England: Pam (and her husband Doug) have been long time supporters of everything Dursley. They ran their optician's business from the early 60's in the town and were members of Dursley Inner Wheel and Dursley Rotary. Since then they have organised and supported many many community events and fundraising within the town, probably close to 60 years of support

2022

Jude Groves - Founding member of the Pop-up Garden Café, held at the Chantry Centre. The Café is purely run and staffed by volunteers, who are rostered by Jude on serving and baking duties. Being now in overall charge of the café, Jude has to attend extra mornings to ensure stocks are ready for the following day. Without this time put in by Jude the Café venture would not have been the success it is today.

Helen Judge - Nominated for her various other volunteering roles with Riding For the Disabled and the Stroud District Cats Protection. During Lock Down she has helped with the Covid vaccinations at the Vale Hospital. She also became involved with the Dursley Food Bank. Helen also manages the administration of the annual "Flower and Produce Show" held at the Chantry Centre each year. This

Eric Torrington - Eric is a litter volunteer based in Dursley, who is regularly seen carrying out litter walks within the Dursley area and has "adopted" a number of lay-bys on to highlight the problem of vehicle thrown litter. Eric has collected tens of thousands of items of litter during his walks, with some dating back to the 1980's.

Vijay & Tika Patel - Vijay and Tika purchased the Newscentre in Silver Street in 1988, and the newsagent store has thrived ever since thanks to their hard work. They have provided a valuable service to the residents of Dursley, seven days a week over many years.

2021

Charlotte Tuckwell supported her family through the Covid lockdown periods including lokking after her younger siblings and volunteeering at Cam Hopton School

Sarah Lancaster for co-ordinating the Sew for Keyworkers Glos and the Community Mask Trees in Cam , Dursley and the local area, creating in the region of 15,000 handmade items and raised over £8,000 for local charities.

GL11 Community Hub for their service to Dursley during the Covid pandemic. This has included at the beginning of the first lockdown setting up telephone hub which took over 3000 telephone calls in the first month and setting up and organising more than 300 Street Volunteers to visit every house in Cam & Dursley.

2020

Caroline Marrow runs the shop 'Inches' and is involved in many local activities and fundraising initiatives. "Caroline is such a wonderful, caring person and is always thinking of others before herself".

Marisa Dexter was one of the founding members of MOBS (Mothers offering breastfeeding support) Dursley almost 12 years ago. "Marisa is the lynch pin and driving force behind the group and over the years will have helped hundreds of families, many who come during times of crisis".

Aaron Harris has worked for Dursley Fire Service for 19 years and has contributed much to the community including his work with Champions Court. "Aaron is an individual who will go the extra mile to help anyone in whichever way is appropriate, he needs to be recognised for his continued and valued contribution to Dursley".

2019

Mike Doughty - In recognition of volunteering for many charities and organisations within Dursley and has had various roles over the years, volunteering his time in many ways. Some of the organisations he has helped include Dursley Rotary Club, Festive Dursley, Dursley Town Trust, Dursley Welcomes Walkers, Vale Vision and his 12 years serving as a Town Councillor.

David Durden - David received the award for his substantial contribution to Dursley Running Club, since taking over as Chairman in 2013.

Doris Holbrook and Gwyneth Peglar were announced as joint recipients for running the Friendship Club over the last twenty years

Pauline Darby - The "Unsung Hero" awards were presented to Pauline Darby who has been volunteering for more than 30 years with the Friday Lunch Club

Christine Baker for volunteering and supporting children and young families, including setting up the first Rainbow Guides Group in Cam during the 1990's.

2018

Cllr Jane Ball - in recognition of longevity of service to the community but also its impact for the following organisations: Former Mayor and longest serving (current)Dursley Town Councillor, Chair of the Dursley & Cam Branch of the Royal British Legion, Vale Community Hospital - League of Friends and Dursley Community Centre.

Mr & Mrs Chris & Linda Cherry - in recognition of their joint involved in the town for many years with Vale Vision and the various projects it has been instrumental in: The Sculpture trail, the Health walks and Breakheart Quarry and on the Dursley Welcomes Walkers Steering Group.

Mr Tom Arnold - The third recipient of the "unsung hero" awardin recognition of his community involvement since moving to Dursley including Festive Dursley and arranging the 2018 Street Party for the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry.

Miss Kate Reynolds - in recognition of her services to Dursley with the Royal British Legion and the Festive Dursley event.

2017

Mrs Martine Carter - In recognition of her continued service to ConnectAT; supporting and providing events for vulnerable young people.

Cllr Mandy Woodward - In recognition of her support to fellow traders and the vulnerable whilst working in the town.

Mrs Ronnie Harding - The second Leslie D Gale "Unsung Hero" award, in recognition of her continued volunteering efforts across the community.

Cllr Brian Marsh (posthumously) - In recognition of his contribution to Dursley town and his exemplary service as a Town Councillor for almost 25 years (1992-2016).

2016
Mrs Anne Anderson - In recognition of her continued volunteering to local groups, including Girlguiding, Treetops Nursery, Sure Satrt & Dursley Cinema.

Mrs Emma Irvine - In recognition of her continued volunteering to local groups, including Dursley Tabernacle URC, The Door Youth Project, The Vibe Youth Centre and Cam & Dursley Youth Project.

Mr Keith Thomson - The first Leslie D Gale "Unsung Hero" award, in recognition of his continued good service to Dursley, maintaining the tidiness of the town centre to an exceptionally high standard.

2015
Mr Jack Johnson, in recognition for his service to country and community, including being at the Dunkirk evacuation, 75 years ago.

Mrs Eileen Hopcraft in recognition for her service to the community including working at the Independence Trust at Dursley Mental Health Wellbeing Centre.

2014
Homestart (Stroud District) in recognition of their family support organisation, offering friendship and practical help to families in our community.

2013
Reverend Janet Bromley in recognition to her years of service to the people of Dursley. Reverend Bromley will be retiring in the Summer of 2013.

2012
Dursley and District Old People's Welfare Committee: Mrs Mollie (Dinkie) Shapland who has been on the committee for over 45 years, many times as chairman, and Mrs Dorothy Sutton who served as secretary for 25 years.

2011
Friends at Christmas, this group of volunteers spend their Christmas providing transport and festive meals for those who would otherwise spend Christmas alone.

2010
Dursley & District Good Neighbours Scheme, this group of volunteer drivers have been transporting the elderly to and from medical appointments - and waiting with the patient - totting up a total of 6,500 journeys and 142,000 miles since the 1970s.

Mr G Wheeler for his contribution to the community not only as a local government councillor, but also as an active member of so many organisations including Dursley United Charities, Dursley Youth Centre and Vale Vision.

2009

for his work with the Lister Hall, the Uley-Dursley-Cam Cycleway and Kingshill House Limited.

Mrs G Chamberlain
, the oldest waitress in Dursley at 92; a founder member of the Day Centre in May Lane 35 years ago, who continues to help.

Councillor D Matthews
(posthumous award) for his active service as a town councillor and his role in many local organizations.

2008
Dursley Youth Forum: who identified an accident blackspot and campaigned for improvements via a video presentation to Gloucestershire Highways.

Dursley Special Constabulary; unpaid volunteers who provide essential support to regular police officers.

2007
Mrs M Macdonald: for extensive voluntary work in charity shops, at Henlow, and in the day centre.

2006
Mr L Hearle: as Chairman of Dursley & District Community Association, and also his support in running the Sports centre.

Miss S Martin: for dedicating her life to the children of Dursley – both as a junior school teacher and in her leisure time.

Mr C Smart: very active school governor member of Dursley Lions Club.

2005
Mrs J King: commitment and organization of the Farmers' Markets in Dursley.

Mrs M Paisey: commitment as Brownie Leader to the young girls of Dursley.

Mr G Pierce: promotion of the heritage of Dursley, especially the buildings around the Market Place.

Miss B Butt: fund raising for various charitable causes.

Mrs M Morgan; service as Clerk to Dursley Town Council for ten years, showing conscientious service.

Mrs. D. King: service to the community as Vice-President of the Dursley & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce and a very active member of the Chamber team that organises the Christmas Goodwill Evenings, the town's Christmas lights, the Festival and many other "behind the scenes" groups.

: for consistently providing an across the board and varied service to the local and far reaching communities, always with good humour and reliability.

2002
Mr. P. James: service to the community as secretary to Dursley Town AFC for fifteen years.

Mrs. S. Jones
: service to the community as Co-ordinator for the Dursley Town Festival and President of the Dursley & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce.

Mr. P. Jones: service to the community as the leading member of the Dursley & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce team that prepares, tests, erects, dismantles and stores the town's Christmas lights.

Mrs. M. Parker: many years active involvement with young people of Dursley and district, especially in scouting and as a leader with the Dursley Junior Youth Club.

Mr. D. Barnes: services to Dursley Town Trust with personal effort and dedication to completion of Town Hall refurbishment, commitment to helping develop and improve future of the town.

Mr. B. E. Allen, M.B.E.: service to community as Town and District Councillor, Chief Fire Officer for the town, local builder and Chairman of Dursley Town Trust.

Mr. R. H. Cotton (posthumously): services to community through local government, to the children of Dursley as caretaker at RednockSchool and support of charities, such as the India Friendship Club.

Mr. G. Bethell: driver of Cam & Dursley station's Rail Link: bus, takes real pride in his work and does his best to ensure the success of both the bus service and the station.

Miss J. Kingham: many hours willingly spent visiting the ill at home and in hospital.

Mr. M. North: recognition and appreciation of excellent work to keep the streets of the town clean and tidy.

Mr. J. Redfern: improving and maintaining rights of way in the Parish of Dursley through the Parish Paths Partnership.

Mr. J. Smallwood: work with the Stinchcombe Hill Volunteer Group to Improve Stinchcombe Hill for the benefit of wildlife and people of the surrounding area.

Mr. & Mrs. C. Jukes: active involvement with the mentally handicapped through the Open Door Club and other charitable organisations.

Dr. C. Mowforth: work within the community, above all determined efforts in campaigning for the re-opening of local railway station.

Mrs. D. Barton: as a town councillor and support given to various community projects.

Mr. D. Hadrell: fundraising work as a member of Dursley Lions Club since its formation
