Serving the people of Dursley

The Town Council completed the lease to take over responsibility for Highfields Play Area from Stroud District Council for the next 25 years (until 2041).

We look after and manage the area, to ensure that the play equipment and ground is kept up to an acceptable standard.

Below is a little bit of information about some of the work we've been involved in since taking over responsibility from Stroud District Council.

Community Day: 29th May 2017

Thank you to all our volunteers who supported our Community Day at Highfield's Play Area on the 29th May 2017 despite the Bank Holiday rain.

The volunteers were able to clear overhanging vegetation, collect litter, repair fences, remove weeds strim along the boundary fences and clean benches. Unfortunately we had to cancel the planned painting of the youth shelter and play equipment due to the weather.

The volunteers enjoyed a BBQ supplied by Cam Family Butcher and were kept refreshed with tea/coffee and soft drinks from the Hummingbird Café.

Improvements

The Green Spaces Committee confirmed two areas for improvement early in 2017.

The first major improvement at Highfields was the refurbishment of the BMX track.

The improvement works included re-grading the areas of "dirt" track and surfacing the corners and bends of the track, to create a longer wearing track which reduced the level of future maintenance required by the Town Council. These improvements significantly improved the quality of the ride for our BMX enthusiasts.

In November 2017 the Council installed the cableway and undertook some improvements to the wooden play unit that was originally on the site when the Council took over. The work was undertaken by the contractor, Proludic, who specialise in play ground equipment installation and maintenance.

The Council has continued to improve the site over the years, since 2017.

Installing combination rugby/football posts.

Removing old wooden equipment a youth shelter, which had become unsafe.

Installing a new accessible swing, climbing frame and see saw.
